Trip Cathcart founded the studio as Custom Glassworks in 1985. During the last 20 years he has had the distinct privilege of working with and learning from an amazing collection of artisans and artists. With the loyalty of key Artisans and the addition of several dedicated individuals with extraordinary talent, he has seen the studio evolve from Custom Glassworks to Custom Glass & Doors in 1998, and most recently into CG & D Studios, a full-fledged art glass and door studio offering our customers a new level of quality, service, and selection. Trip says, “As I reflect on 20 years of loyal customers, and on the collective commitment of our Artisans, I thank God that I was able to follow my dream”.
Lisa Daly is our Studio Coordinator and a traditional leaded glass Artisan. With her technical background in computer software troubleshooting and hot glass jewelry design and fabrication, she brings an ideal skill set to our studio. Lisa combines the organizational skills of a manager with the creativity of an artist. She not only directs our team of Artisans but also designs and implements process improvements, and even makes time to build traditional art glass windows. Whew!! As critical as these talents are to the success of our studio, perhaps her defining trait is her gift of connection. Whether on the phone or in the studio, she connects with our customers and our staff. She cares deeply about her fellow Artisans and is committed to our success. Lisa brings her “A” game to work each day!
Jennifer Lockamy is our Lead Artisan, and an expert in the craft of Overlay Art Glass. She sets the standard for quality with an eye for detail that is unmatched. Through years of hard work and professional experience, Jennifer’s peers recognize her as one of the leaders in her craft. Our studio routinely receives calls from glass artisans throughout the country asking for technical advice on Overlay Art Glass, and Jennifer is our “go to” expert. Jennifer’s pride of ownership is evident in every window that she creates. And her unsinkable spirit and warm sense of humor keep it fun, no matter what!
JR Oakes, General Manager, credits the School of Design at N C State University as the place where he honed his skill as an artist. Perhaps that experience set the table, but he has flourished in the field of Art Glass. His ability to listen to a customer, and then make specific design suggestions that consistently hit the mark, is uncanny. Whether collaborating with a large architectural firm on a major project or working with a walk-in customer on a project for their home, JR is equally committed to excellence. His passion and intensity for beautiful designs is matched by a passion for the success and well being of every individual on our staff.
